History
Founded in 1966 and based in Akron, Ohio, Lippman Kanfer Family Foundation is a private family foundation established by husband and wife business team, Goldie and Jerry Lippman, of blessed memory. Initially, the mission of the Foundation – formerly named Jerome Lippman Family Foundation – focused primarily on Akron-based Jewish organizations.
In the 1990s, the Foundation refined its mission to focus on sustaining Jewish life – with a special emphasis on Jewish education throughout the life cycle; to rescue and rebuild the lives of members in communities at risk; and to foster Jewish nonprofit organization performance and innovation. In 2000, the name of the Foundation changed to Lippman Kanfer Family Foundation to better reflect multi-generational involvement and contribution.
With the death of Jerry Lippman in 2005, the growing leadership of second-generation family member Joseph Kanfer within the national and international Jewish world, and high engagement of third-generation Kanfers, the Foundation has entered a period of dynamic expansion and transition to perpetuate and build upon Jerry’s legacy.
